Money is tight. It doesn’t matter if you are a business or a family struggling in today’s time, this is a problem that affects everyone. Yet, relief is available in the form of government grants. There are many websites that will help you to find a grant for your personal situation. It just takes some time and effort on your part to find the one that is just right for you. You can start with actual government websites. They may be harder to navigate than using a grant application assistance system, but these government run sites will usually have up-to-date information. Other websites to browse include not-for-profit agencies and social service agencies.
For housing grants, such as ones that may help you with foreclosure or energy costs, the Department of Housing and Urban Development is a good place to start. Currently they are offering grants for supportive housing for such groups as the elderly or disabled. In addition, they are offering grants for people who wish to make their home more energy efficient. This will be beneficial to all with the current cap-and-trade legislation being debated in Congress. Just take care when searching through these grants. Read the requirements for each one as some may apply only to local governments while others are for anyone to take advantage of.
If you are looking to further your education, but are unable to do so as a result of the depressed economy, apply for a grant and your education may be paid for. There are many grants out there that focus on continuing education. There are a number of grants that you and/or your child may be eligible for, including PELL grants. Grant money does not have to be paid back, unlike student loans. Many graduating students are burdened by an enormous amount of debt in the form of student loans. Grants can prevent this and allow a degree to be put to work immediately without fear of loan interest rates.
There are many reasons to apply for a grant. Not only are grants tax free, you do not have to repay them. Your credit score is not checked and any American citizen is eligible. With banks lending less due to economic hard times, grants may be your only option. The application process must be fully completed in order to be considered, but it is well worth the time and effort. Many grants are only available to larger groups, such as local governments or organizations, but keep looking as many are available to the average Joe.
